Walt Disney World Restaurants: Top 10 Classics

Walt Disney World has certainly become a culinary wonderland and allows guests to find anything to eat their hearts desire .  However, sometimes you just want to enjoy one of the dining “classics”, and you want to know where you can get the best when you are visiting Walt Disney World restaurants.  So, with that we bring you Walt Disney World Restaurants: Top 10 Classics!

  1.  Best French Fries: There are two establishments we recommend for when you need some fried potatoes.  Some like their fries thin and crispy and some like them thick cut.  Look no further than Casey’s Corner in the Magic Kingdom for the thin and crispy variety.  The portion size here is ginormous! We even see they have brought back the plastic cheese as an optional side for a $1! Now, that is an All American win if I do say so myself.   Now, if you like your fries a little on the meatier thick kind of side then you need to visit Yorkshire County Fish Shop in Epcot’s World Showcase. This place is ALWAYS a must do for our family. The “chips” aka French fries are world class. A tip from us is to request these as a side of chips for a snack credit and pick up a Boddingtons at the beer kiosk outside the Rose and Crown.  Grab a seat in the tree shaded patio along the water, and have yourself a little break from the crowds!

  2. Best Pizza: when visiting Walt Disney World, there have certainly been those days where we just were so exhausted that we just couldn’t make it to out to our dinner reservation and just ordered Pizza Hut delivery.  But, if you are wondering where to get a good pizza pie on Disney property, we have a few for you. There is ViaNapoli in Epcot’s World Showcase if you want to experience “real” pizza from Italy.  The pizza is cooked classically in a giant wood burning oven. The pizza is thin Neopolitan style with really fresh ingredients.  If you need a quicker option, head over to Disney Springs Blaze Fast Fired Pizza.  Here your pizza is also cooked in a giant wood burning oven so quickly that you won’t believe anyone can make pizzas this fast.  Each pizza is pretty hearty for one person and you can pick over 40 toppings.

  3. Best Steak: There are a lot of great steaks to get at Disney restaurants, so recommending the best is pretty tough. But, this post is about classics, and there are a few places that have continually served up the best steak for decade and they are all at Epcot.   First, you have to try Yachtsman Steakhouse at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort.  This place is one of the few restaurants on Disney property you really have to think twice about taking the little ones to though.  Not because Disney is not welcoming to them of course, but the patrons here are usually the adult date kind.  But, you won’t be disappointed here by the steak or the entire meal for that matter.  It has been a classic great since we’ve been going there over almost 25 years ago.  Another really amazing steak can be had at Le Cellier in the Canada pavilion at World Showcase. The Canada food booth even serves up their filet at the festivals each year, so you know it’s good! Finally, if you need a quick service/ less pricey steak option is located at Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory in Disney’s Port Orleans Resort.  There is a rib eye currently on the menu.  It is really hard to find steak on a quick service menu across the property unfortunately.
  4. Best Salad:  Unlike steak, you don’t have to eat at a signature restaurant to get a good salad at Disney.  In fact, one of the best things Disney has always done is offer a variety of really good food of all kinds at its quick service locations and salads is one of them.  Here are two of my favorites: Greek Salad at Cosmic Rays  Starlight Cafe in Magic Kingdom.  You can get this with or without chicken and it’s just a really good balance of veggies, cheese, and protein with a spot on dressing.  Now, during this year’s Incredible Summer celebration you can get a “Super” salad with kale, quinoa, and blueberries.  Another really solid salad can be found at the Mara at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. They have two: a Caesar and the Mara Chicken Salad.  The chicken salad is so delicious with a mix of veggies, chickpeas, chicken, and cheese and the chili- cilantro dressing is what puts this salad over the top.
  5. Best Cocktail: There are two cocktails everyone should experience at Disney that are so very memorable and just delicious.  What we recommend is getting these on what we have fondly named the Magic Monarail Bar Crawl 🙂 Basically, you would take the monorail around the Magic Kingdom Resort loop to each of the Contemporary, Polynesian, and Grand Floridian resorts and stop at the Wave lounge, Tambu lounge, and Mizner’s Lounge respectively to sample their cocktails.  Try the Seven Seas Lagoon at the Wave Lounge.  This is a theme park in drink filled with candy, glow cube, and boba balls….oh yeah there is alcohol in it too.  It’s awesome.  Next, stop in at Tambu Lounge for a Lapu Lapu which is a rum and fruit juice cocktail served in a whole pineapple topped with 151 Goslings rum! Amazing.  Finally, while there is no single cocktail recommended here, stop in to Mizners Lounge and grab a drink (although you may just need water at this point) to relax while the band plays just outside.  Super relaxing!

  6. Best Breakfast: After the Magic Monorail Pub Crawl the night before, you may need a hearty breakfast to get you back in your feet before you head out for a busy day at the parks.  Two of our favorites for breakfast has to be the Garden Grove at the Swan and Cape May at Disney’s Beach Club.  The Garden Grove has a great buffet with food that is a cut above other standard Disney buffets.  They have an egg station, super food bar, and Florida orange juice. You can’t go wrong with Cape May either.  This buffet tends to offer more options than your standard breakfast fare and it is the only character buffet that we know of that doesn’t sell out as quickly as the others ahead of time.
  7. Best New Dish: Disney changes menus so often it is hard to keep up with all that is going on.  Some changes can be awesome while others not so much.  For #7, we need to give a shout out to the ahi tuna nachos at Yak and Yeti in Animal Kingdom,  While you may need to be a sushi lover to try this dish, it is a feast for the eyes as well as the palate!  The fired wontons used as the “nachos” in this dish is just genius!

  8. Best Dessert: Ok, so I’ve tried wait until the end, but I just can’t.  It’s dessert!  Dessert is even harder than anything else to pick a favorite.  The cupcake selection alone at WDW is mind blowing.  HAVE you been to Amorette’s, Ghardelli, or Sprinkles lately in Disney Springs? They deserve a review just by themselves.  But, if we had to pick a favorite it would be bread pudding.  While I know you may be like…what? But, if you give bread pudding a chance I promise you will not be disappointed.  It is like a warm hug from Olaf and just feeds your soul!  We have actually made this for Christmas dessert a few years ago and it is super easy as well.  See link below.  There are two options for this awesome dessert we recommend at O’Hana and Raglan Road.  The O’Hana bread pudding is served ala mode with a caramel sauce and bananas and is served at the end of your family style meal.  Does anyone else just go there for this or is it just me?  Then, at Raglan Road you want to try Ger’s Bread and Butter Pudding.  The description on the menu is just “Like no other you have ever tried. Believe us.”  Enough said I think!  For a good recipe see link below.  You won’t be disappointed! Raglan Road Bread and Butter Pudding
  9. Best Burger:  The best thing about burgers is they are everywhere and don’t cost an arm and a leg.  There are two places that we recommend as the best:  D-Luxe Burger in Disney Springs and Pecos Bill’s Tall Tale Inn at Magic Kingdom.  D-Luxe burger is the best for quality and taste offering four solid options:  the Barbeque, El Diablo, Classic Cheeseburger, Southern, and Veggie.  The star of the show at Pecos Bill’s is not the burger itself, but what you can DO with that burger with toppings.  Seriously, if you are into Mexican food and love burgers, you need to head over to Pecos Bill’s and check it out.  Just trust us and you’ll look like this coming away from the toppings bar 🙂DVD_VIDEO-2
  10. Best Seafood:  When I go to Disney, I really love to try all the seafood dishes I can, because after all you are in Florida!  To us, there isn’t a favorite seafood dish that stands out as the best, because so many are good!  Below are a few of our recent favorites that we suggest you try.  Maybe the most fun of all is the seafood tower at Paddlefish!
    Scallop Risotto at Citricos
Oak Grilled Salmon at Flying Fish
    Cedar Plank Salmon at Boathouse
    Seafood Tower at Paddlefish
